Vaping is trending in many countries, people are preferring e-cigarettes over traditional cigarettes. Vaping has also been advertised as a ‘better’ alternative to cigarette smoking. But is it true? in an exceedingly recent article published in Respiratory Research, an expert and his colleagues explored whether exposure to electronic cigarette vapor (ECV) causes damage to specific lung bacteria compared to cigarette smoke removal (CSE).

Over the past several years, e-cigarettes have emerged as a well-liked alternative to traditional cigarettes. While e-cigarettes are widely considered less harmful by the general public, some health experts have pointed to their potential value in helping people quit smoking. the concept has contributed, a minimum of partly, to a large increase within the number of vaping people worldwide, from seven million in 2011 to 41 million in 2018.

However, e-cigarette use and safety are highly controversial. Many health experts argue that e-cigarettes actually reduce efforts to quit smoking, as seen within the rising vapor rate in teenagers who never smoke. This controversy makes it clear that although the hazards of traditional cigarette smoking are well documented, there’s still an enormous knowledge gap for the security of e-cigarettes.

In a recently published study in Respiratory Research, Deidre Gilpin and her colleagues eliminated this difference by studying cigarette smoke extract (CSE) with major lung bacteria when exposed to electronic cigarette vapor (ECV) seen to do.

The ultimate goal of the study was to see whether the changes caused by bacterial loss result from exposure to ECV or CSE. Bacteria, particularly Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumonia, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are implicated within the development of chronic diseases associated with smoking, like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), either directly from infection or bacteria-mediated.

In chronic infections, bacteria are usually found in large aggregates, called biofilms. Biofilms represent a true challenge when attempting to rid the body of infection. Not only are they physically difficult to get rid of, they’re also more unaffected by antibiotics and harder for the body’s system to dam traditional bacteria.

Researchers observed that S. Pneumonia and p. Biofilm growth has occurred all told CSE-exposed bacteria, with a very significant increase for aeruginosa. Interestingly, just like exposure to bacteria in CSV, or as compared to CSE-exposed bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus, at most, in terms of biofilm levels. this means that, compared to smoking, vaping could also be more likely to ascertain long-term infections for bacteria that are harder to fight.

Overall, the results of this study suggest that, like smoking, vaping has the potential to create already dangerous bacteria more harmful. However, the study has its limitations, because it is difficult to recreate real-life situations within the lab, like how people ingest and smoke. as an example, a deep breath is required for vaping, and other people do vape for long periods. Therefore it may be hypothesized that the consequences seen with ECV could also be greater in reality.

Even if researchers haven’t investigated vape or smoke to test the effect of repeated exposure to lung bacteria or any taste of e-cigarettes, this future research There should be some extent to notice, especially the concerns about this. Potential toxicity of the many common e-cigarette flavors.

Unfortunately, much of what’s known about the effect of e-cigarettes is predicated on opinion instead of evidence. Since this seems intuitive, the final public is firmly holding on to the notion that smoking should make vaping less harmful.
